Ryan Flaherty
Rank: #17 Batter (TD), #8 prospect (BA), #8 prospect (BP)
Age: 22
Position(s): SS
Team(s): Boise
Acquired: Drafted in the 1st round, supplemental pick (2008)
'08 Key Composite Stats: .297 BA, 8 HR's, 112 total bases in 219 AB's, 16 errors
Breakdown: Flaherty's stick made him a 1st round pick for the Cubs and his production at the plate made him a Northwest League All-Star. However, Flaherty's defense dropped him to 17 on the list according to TD. His 112 TB's in 219 AB's gave him a sluggling percentage of .511, ranking him third in the Northwest League and just outside the organization's top ten. The shortstop's 8 HR's rank him eighth in the organization in HR's per AB. Throw in 4 of 6 stolen bases in 56 games and you have a guy who can hit, hit for power, and steal some bags. But his 16 errors would translate to 46 over the course of a 160 games. Hopefully, a full season of professional baseball will allow him to develop defensively, because it's obvious he has the bat.
