Cubs in the WBC, Final Edition

Posted by Lionel on March 25, 2009.

The Japanese defended their WBC crown in an extra-inning defeat of Korea. Ichiro delivered the game-winning hit in the Finals, while Fukudome watched from the bench. Team Japan opted not to start him in the final game, and he never saw action.

Fukudome's line for the WBC...4 for 20 (.200 BA), all singles, 7 walks, 7 K's, 4 runs, 0 RBI's. I guess Cubs fans can take comfort in his .407 OBP, but his core training that he did in the offseason doesn't seem to have helped. The thing that causes me concern is that if he's truly platooning with ReJo, he's going to have irregular AB's, like he did in the WBC, meaning we could see a similar BA.
